Founded in 2022 at the Royal Academy of Music, the Hiraeth trio comprising clarinetist Ivan Rogachev, violist Wanshu Qiu, and pianist Katya Grabova. The trio received a highly commended recognition at the Craxton Chamber Music Competition. Since then, they have commissioned works by distinguished composers, such as Keting Sun and Cem Guven. They have been invited to perform for Ferrandou Music Festival and Cherubim Music Trust. From grand concert halls to intimate venues, their performances have captivated audiences with a blend of classical mastery and innovative flair. As commented by Nigel Clayton, the trio is remarked with "superb preparation and ensemble, real integration of the sound with imagination in the interpretation, coupled with loyalty from the score.”
Hiraeth Trio is grateful to receive mentorship from Hartmut Rohde, Martin Outram, Jon Thorne, Diana Ketler and Sonia Sielaff. Their mission is to explore the sound as a subject itself. Curious about the technical aspects of it, the group is fascinated by the difference in the way the sounds of three different instruments being produced. Exploring miscellaneous possibilities and varieties of overtones created by completely different actions and approaches to their instruments. Hiraeth Trio often presents the contrasting programmes juxtaposing classical repertoire and contemporary music. They are eager to explore new sound combinations and collaborating with contemporary composers.
